Land Rover selection shows continued confidence in ABB technology

ABB, has announced that it has been selected by Land Rover to supply as many as 350 Industrial Robots to be used in the production of its next generation 4×4 models.

The selection, which ABB achieved in fierce competition, is a reflection of Land Rover’s continued confidence in ABB technology and service. Land Rover is currently using ABB robots in the production of its Freelander and Discovery models.

Colin Cooper, ABB Account Manager for Land Rover, explains: “ABB was selected by Land Rover because we could offer familiarity, reliability, connectivity, maintainability and all at a competitive price”.

“This is a confidence-boosting announcement by Land Rover and one we are very proud of. It is a clear indication of the increasing buoyancy of British Industry. ABB is looking forward to developing a close and fully co-operative working relationship with Land Rover on this project”.

The majority of the Industrial Robots are to be used for spot welding (see Plate 5). Delivery of the robots is expected to begin in 2003.
