Purpose – Describes how the UK firm, 3Com, dealt with the Buncefield disaster, an oil explosion affecting the industrial park on which the company was sited. Design/methodology/approach – Quotes Andy Gillham, international HR director at the firm, about how the firm found alternative premises and communicated with employees about the provisions made to carry on working. Discusses the effect of the disaster on the firm in general and on its employee relations. An inset gives advice on disaster management.
