Purpose – To describe life at the Mysore training centre of software company Infosys. Design/methodology/approach – States that obtaining a job at Infosys is considerably more competitive than gaining a place at Harvard College. Describes the training undertaken by the Infosys “freshers” and explains why the company invests so much in training. Notes the speed with which the company is growing, adding an average of forty new employees every day. Comments on the elaborate nature of the facilities in Mysore and the reliance on technology for training purposes. Draws attention to the extent to which Infosys supplements technology training with attention to “softer” skills such as teamwork and appropriate body language and the “do’s and don’ts of the global workplace”. Notes that whilst the company has a relatively low attrition rate during training, it may have difficulty retaining experienced people, given the demand for well-trained engineers and the salaries offered by some other multinational companies. Originality/value – Highlights the way Infosys combines the training of new recruits with corporate brand-building.ISSN: 0738-5587Reference: 35AJ343
