Reproduction is a growing field of interest in the UK and internationally, and this series publishes work from across the lifecycle of reproduction addressing issues such as conception, contraception, abortion, pregnancy, birth, infertility, pre and postnatal care, pre-natal screen and testing, IVF, prenatal genetic diagnosis, mitochondrial donation, surrogacy, adoption, reproductive donation, family-making and more. Books in this series will focus on the social, cultural, material, legal, historical and political aspects of human reproduction, encouraging work from early career researchers as well as established scholars. The series includes monographs, edited collections and shortform books (between 20-50,000 words). Contributors use the latest conceptual, methodological and theoretical developments to enhance and develop current thinking about human reproduction and its significance for understanding wider social practices and processes.

Contributor Biographies

Caroline Chautems, PhD, is a social and medical anthropologist and a Swiss National Science Foundation research fellow at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. Her research interests focus on human reproduction, the body and parenthood, and gender issues underlying these themes. She is the author of Negotiated Breastfeeding. Holistic Postpartum Care and Embodied Parenting (2022).

Alexandra Desy is a PhD candidate in Social and Cultural Anthropology and a member of AFIN Research Group and Outreach Centre at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Her research focuses on cross-border reproductive care with a special interest in travels from France to Spain to access IVF treatment.

Rossana Di Silvio, PhD, anthropologist, and clinical psychologist, is Visiting Lecturer at the University of Milano-Bicocca. She is interested in Adoptive and Post-Familiar Kinship, Reproduction, Parenting and Disabled Children. Currently, she is exploring neurodiversity in childhood and adolescence and its influence on social and family relationships.

Natalia Fernández-Jimeno is a PhD candidate in Philosophy of Technology at the University of Oviedo (Spain), thanks to a Severo Ochoa pre-doctoral contract (BP19-119) and the ‘Praxeology of scientific culture: concept and dimensions’ project (FFI2017-82217-C2-1-P). Her work focuses on the co-production of technology and gender through the case study of ARTs in Spain.

Lucia Gentile was awarded a PhD in Cultural and Social Anthropology by the University of Milan-Bicocca in collaboration with INALCO in Paris. A specialist in the Indian sub-continent, she has conducted ethnographic research into women's reproductive health and the representation of the female body in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

Corinna Sabrina Guerzoni is a Research Fellow at Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna. She obtained her PhD in Cultural and Social Anthropology at the University of Milano-Bicocca. Her research topics are fertility, reproduction and new family configurations.

Léa Linconstant, Doctor in Anthropology, is ATER at the University of Toulouse Jean-Jaurès. Through her work, situated at the intersection of the anthropology of kinship, health and gender, she proposes to understand how, in Italy, the ART pathways lead to a singular reformulation of care and kinship.

Diana Marre is Associate Professor of Social and Cultural Anthropology and the Director of the AFIN Research Group and Outreach Centre at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), Spain. Her research areas are the social, cultural, and political aspects of assisted human reproduction. She has authored about 80 publications in her field.

Claudia Mattalucci is Associate Professor in Social and Cultural Anthropology at Milano-Bicocca University. Her research interests include gendered bodies; kinship and reproduction; abortion and pregnancy loss. She published several articles and edited and co-edited books on these topics.

Dominique Memmi is Research Director in Social Science at the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research) in Paris. She is the author of Les gardiens du corps (1996), Faire vivre et laisser mourir (2003), La seconde vie des bébés morts (2011) and La revanche de la chair (2014). She is also joint editor of Le gouvernement des corps (2004) and La tentation du corps (2009).

Kara Miller is a Cultural Anthropologist and Assistant Professor of Applied Anthropology at California State University, Long Beach, specializing in medical anthropology, body politics and eco-social well-being. Her work explores how embodied knowledge can enliven structures that affect and manage health. She investigates humanistic medical ideologies through lenses of empowerment.

Chiara Quagliariello, Medical Anthropologist, is currently Research Fellow at the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences of Paris and the CUNY Graduate Center of New York, where she leads a Marie-Curie project on maternal health crisis and reproductive rights among Black women in Europe and the US.
