Abstract
Purpose
Details an internal audit carried out at UK financial‐services provider Bradford & Bingley into its own practices on age discrimination.
Design/methodology/approach
Describes the Age Driver tool, which is part of a pilot initiative entitled Fair Play.
Findings
Shows that, as a result of the Age Driver audit, Bradford & Bingley is introducing a communication strategy and employee training aimed at promoting a positive message on age diversity. The company also intends to look at its recruitment policy, and in particular will redesign its existing job‐application form to encourage more applications from older workers.
Practical implications
Highlights a tool that can reveal existing good practice, priority areas for improvement, and strategies to tackle these.
Originality/value
Contains plenty to interest UK organisations facing new legislation on age discrimination in the workplace.
