Explains how to handle mergers and acquisitions effectively, arguing the old way of doing this, in which mergers negotiations were handled by senior managers and the implementation handed over to others, is no longer of use. Sets out a project-based approach to mergers which is based on developing the following characteristics within the organization – the possession of an effective acquisitions strategy, including systems for identifying suitable targets; the ability to perform due diligence, including the ability to develop an integration strategy; and the capability to manage a merger or acquisition deal and ensure that the merger or acquisition performs well through out the mergers and acquisitions life cycle.
