Purpose – to describe the strategy, implemented by chief executive Otellini, to regain Intel’s dominant position in the chip market industry. Design/methodology/approach – highlights how Intel is no longer dominating the microchip market, its position taken over by the much smaller company, Advanced Micro Devices to who Intel has lost many of its big name customers. Describes how Intel’s recent attempts to penetrate new areas have proved to be unsuccessful; draws attention to the radical steps now being taken by Paul S Otellini, chief executive aimed at overhauling the company and retrieving its dominant position in the chip market. Features the chip technology that could helped Intel regain its dominant position; quotes Otellini; looks at how the company has abandoned making chips for cell phones and are now in favour of making chips at the lowest cost possible and plan to allow customers a big say in shaping future developments.
