Rosand Flowmaster Capillary Rheometers

Rosand Flowmaster Capillary RheometersKeywords: Bohlin Instruments, Rheology

Further to Bohlin Instruments' acquisition of the Rosand rheology product line, the Flowmaster series of advanced Capillary Extrusion Rheometers is now manufactured alongside the complementary rotational rheometers at the company headquarters in Cirencester, UK. Bohlin considers that the newly formed product line allows it to address all its customer rheological needs.

The Rosand Flowmaster RH7-2, of which over 200 systems have been sold worldwide, is based on a commitment to customer service, manufacturing quality and superior design. The Flowmaster is thought to be the optimum capillary rheometer for research and product development.

Incorporating a novel drive system with 100kN capability, high viscosity and filled materials can be characterized efficiently and accurately up to shear rates of 106s-1. Using the dedicated Rosand software, measurement data can be expressed in terms of both the shear and the extensional viscosity, therefore allowing simulation of "real" processing conditions. The measurement principle is based around the proven twin bore barrel system that uses a zero length die and the Bagley correction to provide meaningful data that can be used to interpret complex flow and extrusion properties. The software is said to have been awarded TickiT approval and includes a comprehensive online help package.

Designed on a modular basis, the RH7-2 is stated to be compatible with a wide range of additional options that can be easily fitted at the customer's site. These include melt strength, laser die swell, PVT (pressure volume temperature) cell, high/low temperature extension, high force or speed, inert atmosphere, extra long and slot dies. Being coupled with additional software modules like stress relaxation, melt fracture, yield stress and wall slip makes the RH7-2 a complete workstation believed to be capable of just about any type of rheological measurement.

The latest addition to the Rosand capillary rheometers is the Flowmaster RH2000 series of bench top systems designed to provide research standard data at an advantageous price. Designed for polymer applications, the RH2000 is principally used in quality control due to its ease of use, although it's intrinsic flexibility is also said to make it suitable for research applications.

All the Rosand Flowmaster systems are supported by a team of qualified engineers with the availability of preventive maintenance service contracts and extensive training courses, to ensure continued accuracy and reliability in use.
