Nautilus 2000 Release 2

Keywords: Thermo LabSystems, Information management

Thermo LabSystems announces that the latest version of its Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Nautilus 2000 Release 2, is now available and being released to customers worldwide.

Nautilus is Thermo LabSystems' latest LIMS product, said to be focused on improving laboratory productivity and reducing the total cost of ownership. Claiming reduced implementation times and patent pending Workflow technology, eliminating the need for customisation, Nautilus is a ready-to-run LIMS that is believed to be delivering a return on investment to customers.

This first update of Nautilus 2000 claims a number of new features, including some key advances in user-friendliness:

  • Enhanced prompts – Nautilus now allows the creation of multiple prompts per database field and permits users to copy existing prompts using the Explorer interface.

  • Toolbars and command button editors – toolbars and commands now have their own property sheets to allow the graphical customisation of standard toolbar appearance, as well as permitting the creation of new toolbars and associated buttons.

  • Window extensions – these enable the creation of user-defined windows that are able to respond to the same Nautilus specific events as standard Nautilus windows.

  • Improved database wizard – this will add the ability to create table-spaces directly from the wizard, further easing upgrades and installation.

  • Result entry screen improvements – the result entry screen is now able to display result specifications alongside result properties.

We are also informed that, in addition to this new functionality, almost 100 minor enhancements have been included in this release.

It is reported that Nautilus 2000 R2 has undergone a full testing program and has been validated against the Oracle 8.0.5 and 8.1.6 (8i) databases. Supported platforms for Nautilus 2000 R2 include Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 98 and Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server. In providing support for Windows Terminal Server, Nautilus can be deployed to client workstations using an ultra thin client. This approach, it is thought, can significantly reduce system management and administration overheads, leading to further reduced cost of ownership for customers.

The Nautilus 2000 R2 Validation Kit is available as an optional module. The Nautilus 2000 R2 is being distributed to all supported customers on request, with documentation being supplied in soft copy form.
