The National Association of Care Catering Conference (NACC) and Exhibition 2008, the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, 11-12 September 2008

The theme of the conference was “A Changing Climate” which was felt to be reflective of the changing world of care whether for children or older people.

Presentations included:

  • The progress of the work of the Nutritional Action Plan Delivery Board. This included the new standards on meal provision plus those for nutritional screening.

  • Diet and eye health with a focus on sight stabilising nutritional supplements to slow down the progression of eye disease. As eye disease and the often, resultant blindness is a major problem in an aging population any such supplements can have an important effect.

  • Work of the “Catering for a sustainable future group” which brings together various disciplines from across the industry to work towards energy efficiency and the use of sustainable products.

  • Exploring the future for care catering services.

  • Customer services and training on this important aspect of service delivery by an interactive session.

  • Extra Care Services which aimed to assist clients to remain in their own home with a package of suitable support.

  • Diversity and what it means.

The conference was both thought provoking as well as offering opportunities for debate and networking.

It was supported by an exhibition of over 60 organisations who provide goods and services to the care sector.
