Article Type: Appointments From: Microelectronics International, Volume 27, Issue 1

Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) has appointed Maria Marced, President, TSMC Europe, to serve on the EMEA Council. She was chosen for the council for her drive, leadership and vision that will expand the Alliance's reach globally.

Maria Marced was appointed President of TSMC Europe on November 19, 2007 and is responsible for driving the development, strategy and management of TSMC Europe. Prior to assuming her role as President, Maria was the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Sales and Marketing at NXP Semiconductors/Philips Semiconductors.

Marced joined Philips Semiconductor in September 2003 as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Connected Multimedia Solutions Business Unit overseeing Philips semiconductor solutions for connected consumer applications. Previous to her tenure at Phillips Semiconductor, Maria worked with Intel where she developed her professional career of more than 19 years, reaching the top position in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region as vice president and general manager, a position that she occupied for 3 years.

Marced has been twice ranked sixth of the top-25 Digital European leaders by Time Magazine and, in 2001, ranked third in the Wall Street Journal Europe's Business Woman of the Year. In addition, she was nominated by Spain for the Europe Woman of the Year in 1990 and she was awarded Intel's highest Achievement Award for her work on the Intel Inside Program in 1991.

Maria Marced holds a PhD in Telecommunications Engineering from Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, Spain. TSMC, a GSA member since 2003, is the world's largest dedicated semiconductor foundry. As the founder and leader of this industry, TSMC has built its reputation on offering advanced wafer production processes and unparalleled manufacturing efficiency. From its inception, TSMC has consistently offered the foundry industry's leading technologies to its customers. “TSMC has always been an avid supporter of GSA. Their dedication, drive and innovation have established them as the foremost technology leader for the semiconductor community. We are pleased that Maria Marced will represent them on our EMEA Leadership Council,” said Jodi Shelton, President of GSA.
