Promotion for electronics talent

Product Engineer, Martin Birkett, has been promoted by electronic components manufacturer, TT Electronics Welwyn Components, to the position of Applications Engineer (Figure 1).

The promotion comes following a fantastic 12 months for Martin, who last year was one of only six individuals in the UK to be granted an Industrial Fellowship by The Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 and also received a prestigious award from the Institute of Electrical Engineers for the development of a new manufacturing process.

In his new role as Applications Engineer, Martin will use his extensive product knowledge and expertise to deal with non-standard product enquiries, advising companies such as General Electric, Schneider Electric and Philips on technical data and complex product applications.

In a further testament to his expertise, Martin has been selected to present a paper on thin film technology at the International Conference on Metallurgical Coatings and Thin Films (ICMCTF) in San Diego, California in April. ICMCTF is the premier international meeting in the field promoting global exchange of information among scientists, technologists, and manufacturers. Martin will be amongst 700 academics and scientists to share their findings and expertise during the conference.

Employed by Bedlington-based TT Welwyn for 11 years, Martin first joined the company as a 16 year-old apprentice and has progressed rapidly. He will combine his new role as Applications Engineer with continuing to study part- time for his PhD.

Managing Director, Jon Reardon- Smith commented: “Martin's promotion is extremely well-deserved and we believe his knowledge and expertise will be a great asset to the department and to the clients that look to TT Welwyn to provide innovative solutions to their technical problems. We look forward to him representing Welwyn in San Diego.”
