International Manufacturing Services, Inc. (IMS), has introduced its new "S" family of SMT (surface mount) resistors that effectively double the industry standard for power handling (Plate 1).

IMS "S" series resistors offer the customer the ability to operate circuits at higher power levels without having to redesign the circuit or increase component size. This brings significant advantages to manufacturers of power supplies, miniaturized medical devices, instruments and communications equipment, and sub-systems. Higher power can now be provided without sacrificing device performance. Additionally, simplified high power circuit design can now be accomplished without increasing size or replacing components.Resistor sizes include 0402, 0603, 0805, 1206, 2010, and 2512, respectively. IMS product examples include the RCX-0402S@160mW, RCX-0603S@ 200mW, RCX-0805S@350mW, and RCX- 1206S@500mW. Additional enhanced power devices include the RCX-2010S@1W and the RCX-2512S@2W. Resistor values for these devices extend from 10 to 1M .
