Leadership Health Care, a group formed in partnership with the Nashville Health Care Council in 2002, has announced its new leaders and agenda for the coming year.

Neil Heatherly, CEO of Stonecrest Medical Center, part of HCA, Inc., has assumed the chairmanship of the organization, whose purpose is to create educational, networking and mentoring opportunities for tomorrow’s healthcare leaders, and to cultivate talent within the industry.

Teresa Sparks, corporate controller for Symbion, Inc., will serve as vice chairwoman of the board, which includes representatives from a large segment of the healthcare industry, including hospital management, ambulatory surgery centers, disease management, PBNs and others, including professional services firms that support the industry, from the fields of law, accounting and finance.

Recently the 2007-2008 board gathered a cross section of the group’s membership, including former board members and members of the organization, for a strategic assessment to look at the last five years and chart the future course for Leadership Health Care (LHC).

The organization has experienced dramatic growth in the last five years, growing from an initial membership of 200 to more than 400 members, a “really incredible” increase, according to Heatherly, who anticipates that this year will see even more members join.

The session gave the board a chance to set the framework for the next steps, as appropriate work groups discussed and reported on anticipated developments in the field.

LHC and Nashville Health Care Council (NHCC) both work to promote Nashville as the nucleus of the nation’s healthcare industry and home to exceptional healthcare industry expertise.

LHC has had great success with its annual trip to Washington, DC to acquaint up-and-coming healthcare leaders with the healthcare policy environment and to provide insights and access to participating in the policy landscape. Last year, 50 members of LHC traveled as a group to the nation’s capitol for an opportunity to meet with leaders from Capitol Hill in an exchange of information and views.

This year, Heatherly is excited there will be an additional opportunity for exposure for the group, when a LHC delegation goes on the road to Wall Street.

The New York group will be limited to 75 members and have an opportunity to connect with financial stakeholders and other top decision makers on Wall Street involved in financing some of the nation’s and Nashville’s key health care industry transactions.

Highlights of the trip will include meetings with Wall Street leaders about deal trends, strategies, transactional issues, challenges, and opportunities. The agenda includes up close and personal opportunities to hear what key players believe are next for financing the industry.

LHC has set its agenda of programs for the coming year, with programs designed to expose members to outstanding speakers from the healthcare world.

In addition to exposure to national healthcare leaders, benefits of membership in LHC include an opportunity to participate in the LHC Peer Mentoring Program and a special invitation to select NHCC events at council member rates as well as an opportunity to participate with a motivated group of healthcare professionals and entrepreneurs.

Heatherly said the 25 members of the new board were chosen from members of LHC who had demonstrated previous leadership skills to motivate people and who represent a cross section of the healthcare industry.

The new chairman emphasized that the opportunity to work with LHC is unique because the organization is unique to Nashville and recognizes Nashville’s recognized leadership in this national industry.
