Smart-CimStation – PC based robot simulation software

Keywords: Robotics, Simulation

Offline programming allows the end user to maximize return on investment for robot systems. To maximise this opportunity at a minimum investment cost, Comau has launched a new package. Comau's new simulation and offline programming software, Smart- CimStation (SCS), allows robot programming to be done on a PC in the office without disturbing production. It also enables robot programs to be prepared in advance, reducing risk with new product, improving start-up of new products, increasing overall productivity and giving shorter change-over times (see Plate 1).

SCS is built on simulation Software specialist Applied Computing & Engineering world-leading CimStation Robotics simulation software. This solution is specifically oriented for general industry where a PC based; affordable cost solution is required to be able to benefit from this advanced technology in a very competitive market place.

The SCS software is PC based, and highly visual and comes with a free interactive movie player, allowing custom movies to be shown to colleagues and customers. SCS has been designed to be quick to learn and has a fast PC-based interface. It facilitates realistic simulations, using real robot programs and configuration files identical to those used on the shop floor.

SCS will enable users to produce complete simulations, assess positioning and placement of the robots, as well as collision detection. In addition, the software makes it possible to fine-tune equipment positioning and maximise production throughput. This leads to accurately predicted cycle times, and tools are available to minimise cycle times and potentially limit joint wear and tear.

A spokesman for Comau Robotics Division said, “Along with the launch on the market of our new product range, we have been looking for a high performance simulation system to assist our users and integrators. SCS is an ideal answer. It gives them access to a very capable simulation tool with truly excellent graphics, and is one of the easiest to use.”

Comau Robotics is one of the worldwide leading manufacturers of high quality robotized solutions. At 25 years from the industrialization of its first robot, Comau Robotics continues to work alongside the customer acting as a partner in all phases of technological process, measuring up to the challenge of assuring its future growth and that of its partners.
