Twenty-one going on one

Twenty-one going on one

The annual McMaster Business Conference has been going on now for 21 years. That's many a lifetime in Internet years. This year, however, was different as the First World Congress on the Management of Electronic Commerce joined the venerable Business Conference.

As electronic commerce comes of age, we are in the midst of a rush to understand and adapt management theories, techniques, and styles to deal with the new realities and there are new realities irrespective of whether you believe there is a new economy or not. Operations, human resources, and marketing are all undergoing transformations. The papers selected from the World Congress for this special issue reflect the renewed attention management is giving to relationship building, hiring and training, procurement, marketing, strategy, and a host of other core management issues.

I would like to thank the guest editors, Milena Head and Christopher Bart, for putting together such a fine collection of research papers and bringing it to the readers of Internet Research.

On a more personal note, as a graduate of McMaster's DeGroote School of Business (MBA 1987), I am honoured to be able to publish works by my former professors – Norm Archer (Simulation), Yufei Yuan (Database), and guest editor Chris Bart (Business Policy), as well as the other outstanding work that was presented at this year's McMaster conference.
