Authored by an economist at the University of Haifa, this volume is designed to teach the economic theory of high technology networks to advanced undergraduates, postgraduate students, and researchers to review the latest developments in network economics. “Network industries include the Internet, e‐mail, telephony, computer hardware and software, music and video players, and service operations in the banking, legal, and airlines industries among many others.” Specific chapters explore the latest findings on selected businesses including the hardware industry, software industry, telecommunication, broadcasting, markets for information, banks and money, and airlines. Other chapters discuss technology advance and standardization, social interaction, and other types of networks. Two appendices details different types of game theory applicable in each of these cases. Shy’s book is not for the uninitiated – it presumes a fair bit of economic background.
