Laser die swell and melt cutter system for the Rosand RH2000 rheometer

Laser die swell and melt cutter system for the Rosand RH2000 rheometerKeywords: Lasers, Rheometer, Bohlin

Bohlin Instruments, which recently acquired the Rosand rheology product range, has now introduced two new options for the highly popular Rosand RH2000 bench-top capillary rheometer, which is available in both twin and single bore configurations.

Together with a new software package, Flowmaster version 8, the laser die swell measurement option allows die swell to be accurately quantified under a wide range of flow conditions, to the same level of accuracy as the floor standing Rosand RH7 capillary system.

The melt cutter option is available for use with or without the laser die swell unit. When used in conjunction with the laser unit, the fully automated melt cutter ensures that the extrudate tension is controlled during the die swell measurement, thus preventing thinning of the melt under tension. Alternatively, without the laser unit, die swell can be quantified directly by the cutter system using an in-built cut interval timer. Both options are available as a retrofit to existing RH2000 customers.

As another service to customers the company has recently launched a rheometry contracting service enabling customers to understand the benefit of rheological measurements for their sample types before committing to an instrument purchase. The service is also appealing for those who need "one off" measurements or simply need a specialist test service.

Based at its prestigious headquarters in Cirencester (UK), Bohlin has a large applications laboratory that contains a complete range of rotational and capillary rheometers configured with a selection of temperature control units for multi-application testing. Typical measurement techniques include shear and extensional viscosity, temperature profiling, thixotropic characterisation, creep and recovery, oscillation, stress relaxation and normal force.

Samples provided for rheology testing are charged on a daily basis and the measurement data is provided as part of a laboratory report, which can also be supplied in convenient electronic format.
