Degussa AG has announced a new exhaust catalyst which will reduce emissions by about half compared with current units and could be incorporated into production cars by 1999. The device would meet the EU Euro IV standards, currently envisaged for 2005, as well as the US Extra Low Emission Vehicle standards. The innovation uses fewer precious metals than conventional catalytic converters which should translate into lower production costs.
