Training on tap at United Utilities

Article Type: Notes and news From: Industrial and Commercial Training, Volume 44, Issue 6

United Utilities has opened a new training center for the water company’s 5,000 employees in north-west England.

Water and waste-water engineers, senior managers, apprentices, call-center operatives and back-office staff are all expected to use the purpose-designed training center, which will deliver courses ranging from leadership to first aid. It has eight training rooms, including two dedicated information-technology training suites, and a capacity for 100 people.

Steve Mogford, United Utilities chief executive, said: “Last year, we delivered more than 24,000 days of training to our employees. This dedicated new facility will play an essential role in helping us to develop the skills of employees, so that all our people, from engineers to call handlers, can deliver the best possible service to the seven million customers who rely on us every day.”

Between 2010 and 2015, United Utilities is spending £3.6 billion to improve the north-west’s water and waste-water infrastructure and protect the environment.
