It is an honor to be appointed as this journal’s new regional editor for the North America region. I come to this journal as a professional turned academic. Since 2003 I have worked to create the graduate foresight degrees and tracks at Regent University, from their MBA to their Doctoral program in Global Leadership and Entrepreneurship. Now each year I work with 120 mid-career professionals as they conduct strategic foresight fieldwork in their workplace. In the process I have turned to foresight to keep my students on the leading edge of where futures studies meet strategic thinking and public policy.
My role as the North America regional editor will be to provide the journal with a broader geographical focus from North America. To that end I joined Dr Ozcan Saritas, this journal’s new editor, at the annual conference of the World Future Society in Chicago, this past July 17-19th. During the opening reception, Dr Clem Bezold from our Editorial Advisory Board joined us to greet contributing authors from the past 11 years and meet new subscribers. In addition to attending excellent sessions at the World Future Society, Dr Saritas joined me for a reception of the Association of Professional Futurists, to meet the foresight professionals who established that pivotal network. The last day of the conference we met over Cuban sandwiches and café con leche to talk about the state of foresight research and review our plans for 2010 and beyond. We plan to keep active with the World Future Society, not only by hosting exhibits and leading sessions, but also in conducting author workshops.
The good news is that foresight as a journal has never been more ready to serve you as a reader or a prospective author. Keep your eyes on this space in coming issues as we highlights various ways you can participate in our community of practice. As a subscriber you will learn how to register in our new Emerald InTouch system, where you can access RSS feeds and link to author blogs for networking and knowledge sharing.
