Drive for world-class skills
Keywords Skills, Training, Investment
Education and Employment Secretary David Blunkett has welcomed a commitment by the UK's national training organizations (NTOs) to boost employer investment in people. Speaking at the NTO national council's head office in Sheffield, he said: "I am pleased that national training organizations plan to take a leading role in the drive for world-class skills ... I welcome the NTO national council's Skills Foresight initiative, which is bringing employers together to say what skills are needed to ensure future competitiveness and growth. I am also pleased to see the progress NTOs have made with employers on modern apprenticeships, which have been a clear success story for vocational training, and hope to see increased NTO involvement in further enhancing the quality of the initiative and promoting it to young people".
Over the summer, the national council engaged with NTOs and business in a series of debates about how to increase both the investment in, and opportunities for, learning and skills in the workplace.
