This CD‐ROM contains: Introduction, Bloodborne viruses, Preventing cross infection, Infection control risk categories, Pre‐cleaning and hand washing in primary care, Protective clothing, Primary care clinical waste, An extensive bibliography.

This CD‐ROM has been carefully designed to be extremely user friendly. It contains a number of short and “very much to the point” videos. For example, the description of how AIDS and other viruses including Hepatitis enter cells is very simple and very easy to follow. Similarly, the simple and very pragmatic advice required following “needle‐stick” injuries is very well presented and can be easily followed by all who may be so at risk.

This CD‐ROM deserves to be viewed by all healthcare workers. Its use as a teaching aid will be invaluable in teaching hospitals and other educational institutions involved in the training of all staff, including doctors, nurses, x‐ray and other ancillary staff. It will also be essential viewing for those in alternative medicine practices such as acupuncture practitioners, tattooists, etc.

It is very reasonably priced for such comprehensive material and provides much needed advice for both the UK and abroad where the recommendations can be followed to advantage in developing countries and thus diminish hazards from healthcare induced diseases.

This CD‐ROM also contains a separate pdf version of the UK Health Department′s Guidance for Clinical Healthcare Workers: Protection against Infection with Bloodborne Viruses and Recommendations of the Experts Group on AIDS and Advisory Group on Hepatitis.

For those wishing to undertake research, the bibliography is very “user‐friendly” to search, is very extensive and includes only peer‐reviewed articles.

If there is a deficiency in this otherwise excellent CD‐ROM, then the section on the safe disposal and handling of clinical waste requires expansion.
