Abstract
McKesson Drug Company's Economost— an electronic order entry system for wholesale drug distribution—is among the most widely cited examples of successful strategic information systems. We believe Economost produced revolutionary changes in the industry, which affected: The competitive position of the innovating firm, including its profitability and market share relative to its competitors; the industry as a whole, including profitability and concentration; suppliers; customers.
