Day of decision

Abstract

JULY 1st is in some ways a date almost as important as January 1st, 1973, when Britain enters the European Economic Community. By July 1st Britain must have decided whether or not to repeat the mistake when we hesitated at the sidelines and refused to enter the Community at the start. This date — only a week or two ahead, is the final moment by which the Government has to decide whether the country is to be in on the ground floor of the space shuttle programme.
