Abstract

This book is an unreviscd reprint in a soft backed edition of the original publication by Cleaver Hume Press Ltd., first published in 1949, 32s. Since its original publication the book has become established as an excellent introduction to the subject and can be unreservedly recommended for anyone embarking on a study of photoelasticity. It brings together in straightforward form, without unnecessarily extensive mathematical treatment, the fundamental elasticity and optical theory and then covers both the theoretical and experimental aspects of the subject followed by examples on the interpretation of results. Its publication in cheaper form is to be wholeheartedly welcome as making it more readily available to students of the subject. This new edition is identical with the original as regards type, layout, etc., and is printed on tolerably good paper.
