Abstract
Memories are notoriously fickle and it is always difficult to remember precisely when this or that incident occurred. This book is designed to provide the necessary information. This it does for the most part satisfactorily, though it is not entirely free from blemishes. There is a certain lack of balance and a more selective approach would have made the work of less unwieldy proportions. A large number of events are recorded which have in fact no specifically aeronautical significance. On page 25, for instance, of nine events recorded in the first five months of 1917, five are political or purely military. Looked at from another aspect, of five hundred and twenty‐five pages only eighty‐one are devoted to the years before 1939.
