A Pregnant Move

Abstract

MECHANICAL engineering is in the news. On April 13th the INSTITUTION OF AUTOMOBILE ENGINEERS was absorbed into a newly‐formed Automobile Division of the INSTITUTION OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS, which during the week June 8th–14th itself celebrated the centenary of its foundation by a series of social and technical meetings. Meanwhile, on May 29th, the DEPARTMENT OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH issued a statement, which appears in full on another page of this issue, announcing the setting up under its auspices by the British Government of a new organization specially for the carrying out of scientific research in mechanical engineering.
