Union and Management Response to Quality of Working Life Projects
Abstract
The new forms of work organisation have so far had their impact on a very small number of workers in relation to the total labour force in the countries where such experiments have taken place. However, some preliminary observations can be made regarding the problems and trends resulting from these experiments. They entail certain risks for workers and pose problems for management as well. Changes in work organisation involve re‐shuffling the existing power structure which affects particularly the traditional authority of supervisors and technical specialists. They may also be perceived by some trade union leaders as a challenge to labour's solidarity.
