BIRTH OF A COLLEGE … 3: — Pre‐Natal Preparations
Abstract
ALTHOUGH THE writer did not take up his appointment as Principal until 1st September 1962, various visits were made to Southgate between May and September to meet the Governing Body, to make appointments for new staff, and to obtain background information on the College from the Clerk to the Governors, Mr M. A. Healey, who is also the Borough Education Officer. Visits were also made to various departments of the Middlesex County Council — Further Education, Architect's, Supplies and Treasurer's — to meet officers and be put in the picture concerning the many aspects of opening and running a new College. The friendliness and extremely helpful welcome met in all these early introductions were of the greatest assistance in subsequent months when difficulties were ironed out quite smoothly either over the telephone or at personal meetings. Without such willing co‐operation throughout, the task of starting a new College would have been much more difficult.
