Jabil opens in Budapest

Jabil Circuit Inc. opened its first East European factory in the industrial park of Tiszaujvaros, 160 km east of Budapest.

The company has invested US$35 million and employs 400 people with plans to invest a further US$80 million in the Tiszaujvaros factory.

The investment was supported by HUF200 million from the Hungarian Ministry for Economic Affairs.

The site was chosen ahead of Polish and Czech rivals due to its proximity to the M3 motorway now under construction, the investment and tax benefits offered by the town, and the specially trained workforce were all factors which favoured the Tiszaujvaros venue.

The 2,400 square metre factory, which will operate in a duty free zone in the Tiszaujvaros industrial park, was built in less than six months. The Jabil Circuit Manufacturing Co. plans to turnover HUF50 billion this year (US$1 = HUF295).
