ITRI issues bid for next generation PWB electrical tester

Keywords ITRI, Testing

The Interconnection Technology Research Institute (ITRI) is issuing a request for bids for the manufacture and delivery of a next generation bare printed wiring board (PWB) electrical tester.

"The members of ITRI are taking this approach to enable the development and manufacture of the next generation electrical test equipment so critical to the PWB industry. This is an opportunity for the equipment manufacturers to work with their customers to ensure that the industry's equipment needs are met", says ITRI CEO Marshall Andrews.

Merix, Johnson Mathey/ACI, Praegitzer and Tyco are providing the leadership for this quotation request. Together, these PWB manufacturers are preparing a detailed equipment specification which will represent the requirements for test equipment needed by all of the participating companies for the next several years.

"Electrical testing of bare PWBs has become a critical issue to the industry", says Mark Hollinger, COO Merix Corporation. "Merix is currently building boards of a density and complexity that cannot economically be electrically tested with existing bare board test equipment. The requirement for these complex boards is expected to increase dramatically in the future."

This competitive bid is open to all companies worldwide. Copies of the bid package will only be sent to those companies which express interest by contacting ITRI. To receive a copy of the bid package for the purpose of considering a response, contact: Diana Hempstead, ITRI Administrator. Tel: +1 (512) 833-9930l; Fax: +1 (512) 833-9925.

Receipt of a bid package does not imply a requirement to bid. ITRI reserves the right not to issue an award if no responses are deemed adequate.
