Editorial

Another good year has passed for Career Development International.

We have had an increase in submissions (much of it due to very successful special issues), and kept the high quality of accepted manuscripts. We kept to our impressive turnaround time, from day of submission to the day of decision e-mail, still averaging less than 35 days. Having a cadre of committed, professional scholars, the reviews are of high quality, in-depth, and developmental. Each manuscript is blind-reviewed by two or three reviewers. Thanks again to our dedicated reviewers for enabling CDI to maintain these achievements.

The rejection rate is around 70 per cent, a substantial share of which is made up of outright desk rejections or returning certain manuscripts to authors. With the three special issues we had over 150 submissions (note that more papers were submitted to the three SIs than to the regular issues – well done to the guest editors).

This year we have three distinguished scholars joining the Editorial Advisory Board – Mike Arthur, Daniel Feldman, and Sherry Sullivan, all are well renowned for their work on careers and beyond. We are introducing a Book Review section, which we believe will be different from the conventional “book reviews” in typical journals. Welcome to Sam Rabinowitz from Rutgers, USA, our first Book Review editor.

CDI continues to benefit from being part of Emerald, with great support, especially from Paula Fernandez, the Managing Editor. The numbers of people downloading our papers is increasing significantly, and the visibility of the journal is improving, helped by our sponsorship of a best paper award within the Careers Division of the Academy of Management.

Owing to the great success of the recent Special Issues, we have papers enough lining up for next year and into 2007, so I will have to be even more selective in future when considering proposals for special issues – nevertheless, do not hesitate to contact me should you have a noble idea for a unique SI for CDI.

I look forward to another flourishing year with CDI.
