Joseph Mariathasan is the Director of Business Development at GMO in London. Prior to joining GMO in 2001, he spent 9 years at Morely Fund Management in a number of senior treasury, risk management and business development roles. His most recent role there was as Head of International Business Development where, amongst other initiatives, he was responsible for the setting up of CGU-CDC China Capital Partners in June 2000 to invest an initial $100m of CGNU and CDC funds in unlisted equity investments in China. His previous career spanned a number of roles at Kleinworth Benson and Shell International. Dr Mariathasan holds a BA and DPhil in Physics from the University of Oxford and has gained a number of professional qualifications including membership of the Association of Corporate Treasurers and the London Stock Exchange. He is also an ex-Chairman of the UK Asset and Liability Management Association, a grouping of professionals from financial institutions with interests in asset and liability management.
