Higher strength 7000 aluminium alloy

Keywords: Alloys, Materials

Advanced Metals International Group, multi- metal stockholders, suppliers and processors, announce the availability of Kaiser Aluminum's Alloy 7068 produced and supplied by Tennalum.

This high performance alloy, developed by Kaiser Aluminum is said to provide higher mechanical strength than traditional 7000 series aluminium-zinc alloys with corrosion resistance comparable to 7075 alloy. Alloy 7068 claims a typical yield strength approaching 700 Mpa, 15 to 20 per cent greater than that of 7075 alloy, and permits the use of a lighter product in many applications with a reduced cross sectional area.

The company asserts that the attractive overall combination of. high mechanical properties (retained better than 7075 at elevated temperatures) and other important characteristics of Alloy 7068, available in round bar and various sections, have resulted in its being used or considered in many market sectors including aerospace and ordnance.
