Aalco have published a new reference manual covering stainless steel tube, pipe, fittings and flanges which has been described as "virtually indispensable" by Professor Terry Gladman of Leeds University, UK. Approving the book for the Institute of Materials CPD Certification Service, in which Aalco is a founder partner, he also said that it "pulls together in one place a considerable body of information that would otherwise be widely spread".

Launched recently at the Institute of Materials in London (Plate 1), the new 400 page manual, which has taken over 15 man months to research and write, represents an investment by Aalco of over £100,000. It covers the full product range in great detail, including specifications (ASTM, ANSI, BS, ISO), sizes and weights as well as general information on subjects such as compositions, mechanical properties and testing.

Historically literature published by stockholders has been highly promotional and low on technical merit. "We recognised that designers, process engineers, buyers and users needed a single source providing a complete range of information on this complex product range and we therefore set out to produce a definitive technical handbook", commented Clive Husselbury, marketing manager at Aalco.

"Furthermore, while specifications are generally written by producers, for producers, we wanted a book written for the user and thus employed the services of an experienced team of technical writers. Additionally, we felt that a review by the Institute of Materials would ensure we had achieved our objectives and we are delighted that we can now provide customers with this valuable resource as part of our commitment to ongoing service improvement", he continued.

Single copies of the new manual are being distributed free of charge to customers of Aalco. Non-customers will be charged £10 to cover administration, handling postage and packing. The same charge will apply to multiple copies.
