Abstract

Speculating about the future of textiles is an endeavor as old as the past. It is pursued by “experts” and laymen alike to one degree or another. The process consists of speculation, prediction, analysis, extrapolation and imagination resulting in only a marginal degree of success. Any vision of the future, no matter how carefully considered it may be, is seen – to quote the Apostle Paul – through a mirror, darkly.

Who were the textile dreamweavers through the ages that transformed our industry?

This article seeks to explore the common thread and textile-related scientific views that have changed our lives through the ages. In addition, we explore how we can use the teachings of sthese lessons to build novel platforms for innovations in textiles for the new century.
