Abstract

Hong Kong is a major clothing exporter to the world since the 1960s and more than half of the domestic export share is taken up by woven garments. Would it be appropriate to say that the woven garment sector is more competitive than its knitted counterpart? This paper uses the cut-off rate concept to compare the two clothing sectors and identified that the knitted garment sector out-performed the woven garment sector in terms of value-adding and gross output when measured on per establishment and employee basis.
