Oman will lead Middle East in green hydrogen progress

Tuesday, July 9, 2024

Significance

Oman is outpacing most global competitors in laying foundations to become a major international supplier of the carbon-free fuel, augmenting its natural advantages with regulatory, infrastructure and supply chain planning.

Impacts

  • Oman will step up collaboration with major potential hydrogen-importing countries in Asia, as it has done with those in Europe.
  • Limited quantities of ‘blue’ hydrogen will be produced during the late 2020s to decarbonise heavy industry in Oman’s north.
  • The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will become an important investor in Oman’s green hydrogen sector over the long-term.
