Subject

Prospects for Europe in the fourth quarter.

Significance

Europe will be dealing with the largest influx of migrants into and across the continent since the Second World War, at a time when several states face elections and relations among EU countries are strained by a long recession, the Greek debt crisis and the United Kingdom's pre-referendum renegotiation of its EU membership. Whichever government is elected in Greece later this month, it must implement the policies agreed with its creditors by the outgoing Syriza administration in July to avoid euro exit and bankruptcy.
