Abstract

Summarizes the findings of the work undertaken by the Centre for Exploitation of Science and Technology into the interaction between transport and communications. Draws on the views of senior managers within information and communication industries and also uses an analysis of a range of communication‐based applications and market surveys to evaluate user/supplier relationships and the development of applications. Looks at one growth in teletrading and its strategic importance in one future as a competitor with the transport system and concludes with the thought that information and communication technology will create business opportunities and that there needs to be a better political and industrial understanding of its economic benefits.
