A preliminary study of school lunches
Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to carry out a small preliminary study on school lunches in the UK.
Design/methodology/approach
A short questionnaire was used to evaluate the views of attendees at the Local Authority Caterers Association National Conference held in July at Birmingham, UK on various aspects of school lunches.
Findings
A total of 85 respondents from schools all over the UK answered the questionnaire. It was found that the most common menu cycle for school lunches was found to be three weeks and the most popular meals were traditional roast meals. It was generally considered that the rules on serving beefburgers should be relaxed and more funding was needed for school lunches.
Originality/value
The short study could assist caterers in devising menus for school lunches.
