Hexion Specialty Chemicals has announced plans to begin construction of a monomer manufacturing plant in Onsan, Korea. The plant, which will produce Cardura monomer, a Versatic acid derivative, will be constructed within an existing manufacturing complex of the company in Onsan. Cardura monomer is used as a key raw material in environmentally friendly paint and coatings, such as automotive clear coats, coil coatings, and marine coatings where high solid, water-based formulations and low volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are required. Construction of the new facility will begin in the first quarter and completion is slated before the end of the year.
