Gatan launches MonoCL4

Article Type: New products From: Microelectronics International, Volume 27, Issue 1

MonoCL4 is a characterisation tool providing spectroscopic analysis with high-spatial resolution and depth of field based upon the power and flexibility of an electron probe.

As the new generation of the world's leading family of cathodoluminescence (CL) systems, MonoCL4 is synonymous with high resolution CL imaging, spectroscopy, and spectrum-imaging.

CL is an important tool for a wide range of specimens including microcharactersiation of the optical and electronic properties of semiconductor and optoelectronic materials and observing parts per million changes in mineral chemistry. The unrivalled sensitivity of MonoCL4 allows the use of low-injection conditions for the ultimate in CL spatial resolution and makes it the ideal tool for investigating restricted volume specimens such as thin films, nanowires, quantum dots, and TEM specimens.

The supreme collection, dispersion, and detection efficiency has extended the use of CL enabling new, diverse applications including: observation of luminescent labels in the life sciences and surface plasmons on metallic nanostructures and the screening of active pharmaceutical ingredients.

Our 15-year track record includes hundreds of successful installations on SEMs, TEMs and electron microprobes and the provision of unrivalled local support. New advances in performance, functionality, and ease-of-use ensure that MonoCL4 is the most highly developed commercial system available worldwide.

Advances include enhanced sensitivity at UV and IR wavelengths; “point and click” selection of spectroscopy, imaging and mapping modes; shortpass, longpass, and bandpass imaging using filter options for increased flexibility; plus new software features, including an option for spectrum-imaging with a large field of view.

The MonoCL4 family of products provides a range of high-performance CL solutions that are individually engineered to meet specific microscopy needs. The modular structure provides convenient and cost effective upgrade paths to the premium packages and also allows users to extend the useable wavelength range with additional detectors.

The new system is compatible with conventional, low vacuum and field emission SEMs, combined FIB/SEMs and ion microscopes. Special versions are available for microprobes, TEM/STEMs or UHV chambers and all are fully compatible with Gatan's range of cryogenic stages and SmartEBIC systems.
