Note from the publisher

Article Type: Note from the publisher From: Managerial Finance, Volume 36, Issue 12.

Managerial Finance has been published for over 35 years and was acquired by Emerald Group Publishing Limited from Barmarick Publications in 2005. A new Editor of Managerial Finance, Professor Don Johnson, Western Illinois University, USA, was appointed in 2006, and is the current President of the MBAA International. Professor Johnson has played a fundamental role in relaunching the journal in 2009, creating a new Editorial Board, and adopting the use of the Scholar One Manuscripts online submission system, as well as reintroducing regular issues to the publication.

The journal aims to answer the questions that are central to the operations of today's industries and their financial management. In so doing, Managerial Finance seeks to address such questions as:

  • Why are financial aspects so important?

  • What should firms do about new investment, mergers and dividends?

  • Why are share prices important?

  • How much should firms borrow?

  • Why are cash flows and risk so important?

This special issue: “Performance and productivity in banking and capital markets: an ‘emergent’ markets perspective” is guest edited by Professor Zeljko Sević of Glasgow Caledonian University, UK. The issue was originally commissioned by the previous publisher and the former Editor of the journal, Dr Richard Dobbins, and Emerald Group Publishing Limited are honouring this commitment.
