This fascinating paperback book by the medic turned futurist Dr Patrick Dixon adopts as its motto “either we take hold of the future or the future will take hold of us”. Dixon regularly addresses these themes with corporate clients and at financial and economic conferences and it shows through in the quality of his writing and analysis.

In the introduction to his book, Dixon suggests that the future has six faces, each of which will have a dramatic effect on all of us in the third millennium. Together they form the faces of a cube which is constantly turning, the faces spell the word “future”. Thereafter, in six chapters, Dixon elaborates his “future” theme by reviewing global trends under the headings: Fast, Urban, Tribal, Universal, Radical and Ethical. Out of these six faces, Dixon has developed a set of more than 500 key issues that he uses to discern the likely impact of global trends – one on another.

If you are interested in the future, either from a corporate perspective or in terms of the forces that are shaping the global village then buy this book – it is a well researched and beautifully written by a man who spends his time living in the future!
