It Asda be Bradford

Bradford University School of Management is helping retailing giant Asda to prepare its graduate recruits to become the company executives of tomorrow.

The school has signed a three-year contract to provide management development to upwards of 30 Asda graduates a year. The graduates, of various disciplines, have worked for up to 12 months in Asda’s Leeds headquarters or in stores across the country. Annual two-day programmes in finance, marketing and strategy include the considerable involvement of Asda senior managers.

“Asda approached us to help with its graduate development,” said Professor Stuart Sanderson, Bradford’s associate dean, graduate programmes. “We are now mid-way through the first year’s programme and the reviews of the first two sessions have been excellent.”

Asda, formerly owned by Associated Dairies, is now part of the multinational retailer Wal-Mart.
