Keywords: Core competences, Presentations, Training techniques, Pricing, Recruitment

Quantum Enterprise Development (QED) is a multi-functional training and consultancy company with a special interest in developing organisations and their staff. In response to clients who have asked for quick sources of reference on key business issues, the company has launched four small tips booklets with practical hints on presentation skills, pricing, negotiating, and recruitment.

They have been written by Jeremy Thorn, Chairman of QED, who has written a number of award-winning books on similar topics and runs practical, hands-on workshops and seminars on these subjects for managers and senior executives.

Apart from helping individuals, these tips booklets are being used to support QED training workshops – the first being for 160 international lawyers on negotiating skills for a large law firm. They are also designed for companies to send out with their own logo to new recruits, staff, customers and business contacts as a promotional tool.

The booklets are as follows:

  • 115 Essential Tips for Effective Presentations: is a comprehensive reference booklet designed for anyone who is required to make presentations of any sort, whether to their own colleagues or to external customers, suppliers, investors, their local community or other special interest groups. The booklet not only covers how to plan and structure an effective presentation, but also provides practical tips on body language, voice projection and delivery; rehearsal, building confidence and dealing with nerves; using presentation aids, managing the audience and handling challenges. There is also a section on dealing with presentations to the media.

  • 115 Essential Tips for Pricing: provides a step-by-step guide to pricing, from planning ahead and deciding the overall business strategy, through to 12 different pricing strategies and over 20 pricing tactics. There are sections on the importance of market share, market testing and how to change prices effectively, together with a useful section on "What can go wrong?" This booklet is aimed particularly at smaller businesses and business advisers.

  • 115 Essential Tips on How to Negotiate Really Good Deals: is a pocket-sized booklet for anyone who needs to negotiate, whether with their own colleagues or with customers, suppliers, investors, trade unions, their local community or even their own family. The tips in this booklet provide a reminder of the importance of planning and separating the "must haves" from the "would likes"; choice of negotiating style; exploring and bidding techniques; influencing and persuading skills; handling deadlock; and closing the deal.

  • 115 Essential Tips for Effective Recruitment: is an essential guide for anyone about to recruit new staff. It covers issues such as planning; finding good candidates; tips for before, during and after the interview; other selection processes and techniques; good practice in completing the selection process; finalising the contract; taking up references; and planning the induction of the successful recruit. It is a particularly valuable source of reference to smaller businesses, which cannot call upon wider resources to help them, and to their business advisers.

The price for single booklets is £4.99, available from: Quantum Enterprise Development, 2 Sidings Court, White Rose Way, Doncaster, South Yorkshire DN4 5NU. Tel: 01302 761222; Fax: 01302 761333; E-mail: Info@qedconsulting.co.uk Internet: www.qedconsulting.co.uk
