The self‐proclaimed aim of this book is to challenge those involved with health promotion to think more broadly about what ‘‘doing the right thing’’ and ‘‘doing things right’’ mean, and to use this thinking to inform their practice. It is divided into sections on ‘‘Recent theories and new approaches to practice’’, ‘‘Evidence‐based work in settings’’, and ‘‘Gathering, assessing and using evidence’’.

Readers of this journal are likely to find the chapters on working in school settings of most interest. These include two chapters on ‘‘Rationale of work in school settings’’ and ‘‘Working in primary school settings’’ by Alysoun Moon, one on ‘‘Sex and relationships education in the secondary school’’ by Frances Hudson, and one on ‘‘Drug and alcohol education’’ by Ruth Joyce. Those embarking on research projects will also find an excellent chapter on ‘‘How to survive literature searches’’ by Elizabeth Perkins.
