Abstract

The Bristol operation is so far unlike all other surveys in this present series. In one sense it is less exhaustive, since fewer areas were covered. In another sense it is more exhaustive, since those places that were covered were taken to a greater depth over a longer period of time. In our early discussions with the local authority to plan the operation, three clear areas of interest emerged. First the degree of sophistication and advance of the secondary comprehensive reorganization, second the policy of continuation at school where other authorities might have opted for increased FE facilities, third the proposal for a Bristol polytechnic.
